How Independent is the AESO?

No doubt many of you have heard the radio and read the newspaper ads taken out by the AESO, touting itself as an independent organization with no ties to energy companies. 

The following is from an article in the October 14 edition of the Edmonton Journal, entitled Power lines costs questioned:

"Anglin also slammed the Alberta Electric System Operator, which has outlined long-range plans for future transmission, saying he doesn't believe the agency is independent of government.

He said an AESO official testified at the 500-KV hearing that executives had bonuses tied to approval of the line.

Spokeswoman Dawn Delaney said the AESO has a bonus program but it is not linked to an individual transmission line."
